Hyperhydrosis is a disorder of the eccrine (sweat) glands that causes excess sweating. The muscles surrounding each sweat gland work "over time" in hyperhydrosis patients. These patients can produce four times more than the normal amount of underarm sweat. In addition to discomfort, this condition can cause embarrassment and "social" problems, in addition to the cost of frequent clothing cleaning and replacement.

Dr. Singer treats excessive sweating with Botox® injections with much success. When Botox® is injected, the muscle relaxes and prevents the gland from secreting sweat.

The patient needs to make sure that their sweating is due to hyperhydrosis and not other medical causes, such as an overactive thyroid or myasthenia gravis, so some additional tests may be recommended. The treatment does not help with odor, only with excessive sweating.
