Tell me about ePTFE Implants...
Now, you can enhance, augment or restore your appearance with softer, more natural looking and feeling permanent implants that last.
ePTFE facial implants are use to fill deep wrinkles, and to enhance, augment or repair soft tissues of the face. Placement of ePTFE implants is performed in a minimally invasive procedure resulting in predictable outcomes with results that last for years compared to fillers that are reabsorbed within months and require repeated treatments to sustain aesthetic results.
As we age, our collagen production diminishes, allowing certain areas to begin to sag, resulting in deep lines and creases. For years, women and men wishing to fill in those “age” lines around the nose and mouth, or those wishing to have fuller lips had to resort to frequent and costly injections, such as collagen and Restylane®.
Until recently no permanent treatment was available for this condition, as even a full face lift, cannot correct the deep lines of the nasal-labial fold or the so-called “marionette” lines around the mouth.
Now a remarkable product, ePTFE, is being used to treat those areas permanently. This soft material is not new on the medical front. It has been safely used for more than twenty years in the human body for grafting blood vessels. When implanted under the skin in the deep lines of the face, or around the lips, this material acts just like natural collagen to plump out and fill in the area for a natural, youthful appearance.
Dr. Karen Singer, a Harvard Medical Graduate and Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in Pinellas County, is one of a handful of cosmetic surgeons offering this procedure in the Tampa Bay area. According to Dr. Singer, the procedure is safely performed in the office under local anesthesia.
Fast, Simple, Out-Patient Procedure
Placement of the ePTFE implant is a simple procedure usually performed under local anesthesia in Dr. Singer’s office in less than thirty minutes. A small incision is made at the ends of the implant site and a small tunnel or pocket (under the skin) is made between these incisions for placement of the ePTFE implant. The implant is inserted through the incision and gently positioned in the implant site. The ends of the implant are trimmed and placed under the skin away from the incisions. The incisions are closed with sutures, which are removed in 4 – 5 days.
Immediately Following Treatment
Patients are up and around immediately after receiving ePTFE facial implants and although soft tissue restoration is visible immediately, some swelling, bruising or discomfort may occur. Most patients can return to normal activities the next day. Most swelling, bruising and discomfort should disappear after the first week. Although Advanta is an extremely soft ePTFE facial implant, you may always feel the implant under your skin. The healing and facial restoration is complete within 3 to 4 months.
ePTFE Benefits Are Important
The procedure is both cost and time effective for the patient, because the cost of the implant is comparable to that of four or five collagen injections per area treated, and after a brief follow up, no further office visits are needed.
