Skin
Resurfacing: Lift Away Time
My
Fraternal Grandmother was an antique collector. She had rooms
full of beautiful old furniture all of which had a lovely
hand rubbed glow. I remember her lovingly sanding out imperfections
and applying her own blend of magical solvents and finishes
to reverse the toll the years had taken on each of her treasured
pieces. She called the process giving the furniture a "facelift."
Actually she wasn't "lifting" the furniture,
but she was lifting away the years of wear and tear.
Wouldn’t
it be wonderful if we could do the same for our dull, old
looking skin? The great news is, we can! We can peel or even
sand away the layers of ageing, resurfacing our skin just
as Granny did with her beloved antique furniture, erasing
years without a surgical facelift.
Starting
with a Peel which can be mild to strong, depending on the
severity of the problem, years of wear and tear can literally
be lifted away. New young skin replaces old dead skin giving
the refreshed appearance of youth.
For
more serious skin problems, Dermabrasion can be used to actually
sand away deeper imperfections caused by age, acne, smoking,
bone loss, and a variety of other factors.
You
may wonder why I have not recommended any of the currently
trendy laser resurfacing techniques. Lasers are lights that
burn, sometimes severely. Because of this, I would choose
the time tested, gentler, less expensive, faster healing and
often more effective Peels and Dermabrasion.
If
we take a lesson from Granny and her antiques, perhaps most
of us don't really need an actual facelift to achieve
a brighter, smoother, more youthful appearance. All many of
us need is a little Skin Resurfacing for our old, dull skin
to virtually lift away time. |
